TIME: * YOUNG CREATORS: Ages 7-9 11:00am - 1:00pm
This semester, children aged 7-9 will journey into the imaginative world of a beloved fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm while exploring a variety of artistic materials, including pastel, clay, watercolor. As they listen to music by Sergei Rachmaninoff and the children’s opera by Seymour Barab, they will deepen their creative experience and bring the story to life by designing a poster, building a small scene in a box, crafting shadow puppets, and a concertina book—just to name a few projects. Throughout the semester, we will also place special emphasis on strengthening observational skills through drawing, painting, and collage.
* ART INNOVATORS: Ages 10-14 2:00pm - 4:00pm
This semester, students aged 10-14 will explore architecture, music, and fashion of the 19th century through the magical storytelling of Hans Christian Andersen. They will learn about Gothic Revival, Neoclassical, and Early Victorian styles, discover the popular music of the time by composers such as Frédéric Chopin, Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, and Giuseppe Verdi, and see how art, design, and culture connect within a story. Creatively, students will design a poster, craft a tunnel book, build a model set, and create costumes for paper puppets, along with many other imaginative projects. Throughout the semester, they will experiment with pastel, charcoal, and watercolor while strengthening their observational drawing skills — including focused still-life studies.
